Dr. Jean Paul Amonte

The Integrative Myofascial Release (IMR) course is a five-hour series. Dr. Jean Paul Amonte explains and demonstrates the components of IMR, including assessment, client positioning, techniques, and rehabilitative exercises. He presents several hand techniques, including Swedish, Russian, and Western. He also covers several ways to get a muscle in contraction to relax, including ischemic compression, vibration, reciprocal inhibition, post isometric relaxation, pin and stretch, Amonte towel, and stretching techniques. Finally, he includes rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the areas involved. Take any hour alone, but if taken together, it will give the viewer insight into Dr. Amonte’s integrated approach to treating patients and clients in practice.

In this hour: Dr. Amonte describes how to care for patients with thoracic outlet, rotator cuff, and carpal tunnel syndrome. First, he reviews the anatomy and assessment of these problematic areas and demonstrates various strokes and methods to address the neck, shoulder, and upper extremity complaints. Next, he presents several techniques: soft tissue, myofascial, post isometric relaxation, neuromuscular, pin and stretch, and towel techniques. Finally, he concludes with an explanation and demonstration of rehabilitative exercises the client can do to enhance their results.

Learning Objectives

Viewers will be able to use various techniques and methods to deal with myofascial tissues in the neck, shoulder, and upper extremity. As a result, they will better understand what muscles and structures are involved with thoracic outlet, rotator cuff, and carpal tunnel syndromes and be able to treat these more effectively. In addition, they will be able to teach clients how to perform rehabilitative exercises between sessions to enhance the long-term outcome of care.
